Office International des Epizooties
What is the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) ?
The OIE and Foot and Mouth Disease
In May 2002 the OIE changed the Animal Health Code for Foot and Mouth Disease.
Provision was made for a return to disease free status post FMD vaccination to be reduced from 12 months to 6 months. This is when animals are vaccinated with NSP free vaccines and then subject to the appropriate serological testing.
This is now possible because tests to differentiate between vaccinated animals and infected animals have been developed (e.g. CHEKIT-FMD-3ABC ). It
has been agreed that it is now possible to satisfactorily differentiate between FMD infected and FMD vaccinated stock.
OIE regulations for Foot and Mouth Disease
